Sauce day!
Lets talk about sauces! Sauces are the sneakiest of sneakers, the trickiest of tricksters, the slyest fox in the corner of your refrigerator. Some sauces are miracles upon this earth, like Dijon Mustard, packed with delicious flavour but is zero carbs! But some sauces are like I said, you think they are low carb because well, how bad can a sauce really be? But then you look at the nutrition facts and all of a sudden you realize you have been packing away an extra 15grams of carbohydrates for just two tablespoons of taste. Hollandaise is a great sauce because it is basically egg yolks, butter, and lemon juice. Again, no carbs! Yummy flavour! Olive oil mayonnaise is also very helpful as it is no carbs. Not all mayonnaise are equal. Some have carbs. Now lets talk about the evil ones like BBQ sauce, ketchup, and tomato sauce. BBQ sauce has 11g 2 Tbsp. Ketchup is 5g per 1 tbsp. Tomato sauce is 13g per1/2 cup, honey mustard is 3g for 1tsp, plum sauce is 6g per 2tbsp, tarter sauce is 5g per 2tbsp, seafood sauce is 7g per 2tbsp. Sauces we generally use everyday are jam packed with carbs. If you braise your meats while cooking with the sauce and then add the sauce to your plate to dip it in, then you are doubling your carbohydrates and not even realizing that you are doing it. It tastes great and the reason it tastes great is because what you are eating is heaps of sugar. Sauces are the hidden weight gain. Consider making your own sauces, that way you know if sugar is being added. Or start using spices instead of sauces. Like for example, lemon or lime goes a long way, each adds an immense amount of taste and has zero carbohydrates.
