The Wonderful World of Soap
Yes, that is correct. I have officially started making my own soap. Why on earth would I attempt to make my own soap? How would I even get the idea to do such an outlandish thing? I love being able to make something and over the years I have acquired many talents such as being able to sew, yes, I have sewn an entire 1950’s inspired dress. I have learned how to bake, cook, knit, crochet, weave, embroider, and relatively successfully do nail art on myself and my mother. One day I was browsing the internet and for some reason an artisan soap making video popped up, so I watched it and at first I thought it would be great to watch it to help me fall asleep. For a while I did use it to fall asleep, I would watch her mix the lie with the oils, put in the colouring, pour it into the mold, and by the time we even got to pipping the soap icing I would be tuckered out and falling asleep. After several weeks of gradually becoming more and more mesmerized by these soap making videos I started to look into where to buy the ingredients, and then all of a sudden I had bought them and they were at my door waiting to become soap! It took me an entire week after having everything I needed to actually make a plan and start mixing but, it finally happened, I have made soap! The soap making process in and of itself was so therapeutic for me! I was actually making something that looked, felt, and smelled amazing (and was not edible). When I told Dr. Laurie about my soap making success she informed me of a technique she developed called Emotionally Focussed Cleansing Therapy and I was over the moon. People could use my soap to perform the Emotionally Focussed Cleansing Therapy. My soap had a purpose.
