How Do We Boost our Happiness?
A lot of the time when people engage in eating, they report the feeling of happiness. The truth is, happiness needs to come from your core values. It is important to be able to be in touch at all times with blessings, positives, gratitudes, appreciations, etc., and when you can get in touch with these things you also get in touch with the feeling of optimism, boosting your feelings of happiness and the ability to get the life you want. This bolsters our feelings of self-confidence, and our self-esteem, and by boosting and focusing on our appreciations then, we actually start to believe in ourselves, that we are worthy and deserving of good things. If you focus on what it is that you do not have then you are focussing on lack, when you focus on the negatives then you are focussing on being your own judge, if you focus on your failures then these things will become self-fulfilling prophecies which won’t make you happier or healthier, won’t attract more fulfilling relationships or positive roll models and won’t move you to thriving. The more you get in touch with your blessings, gifts, positives, etc., you will actually start to feel your life improve and find less need or desire to escape your reality through eating. So eating actually really doesn’t make us happier. We eat based upon a repetitive practiced way of being, it is how we choose to fill our time and perhaps the resulting happiness that we feel is actually that we have made an achievement of filling our time. Eating never relieves boredom, it just fills our time. Eating for comfort is actually just eating to fill time, eating for affection is actually just eating to fill time, the only thing that you actually really gain by filling your time this way is that time has passed and that is why people start to obsess about food, it really is just a way to fill the time. This means that you are going to actually have to find something else to do! For real! The truth is once I stopped obsessing over food, I found that I had a ton of time to fill. There is no point in obsessing over my hard boiled egg that I eat for lunch. So I had to find other things to fill my headspace with. The secret to all success is to be able to appreciate everything that you have, as well as all that you are experiencing in the present, while still actively pursuing what you want to achieve and experience in the future and by being okay with that. Happiness is actually really not about the achievement of your goal, it is not really about hitting a certain number on the scale or eating a specific amount at dinner. The most important thing that gets you to that happy feeling is who you become in the process of achieving these goals. To be able to achieve any worthwhile goal you need to be able to learn new information, develop new skills, and deepen important personal qualities and attributes like gratitude, commitment, patience, and perseverance. The growth you experience in the process is way more valuable than any number. Like my good friend Miley Cyrus always says, “It’s the climb”!!
