Setting Goals
After you start to get ready; establishing your commitment, gaining an understanding, and putting together your structure, the next part in order to actually get going is divided into three parts. The first is going inward, the second is going outward, and the third is going upward. Going inward is the work of the soul. It’s about looking into what has made you who it is that you are, it’s important to recognize that we haven’t just suddenly become this way, our past makes us who it is that we have turned out to be. This is our book of wisdom, audiotapes that we play all day, everyday, which restate our conclusions in life from our past experiences. We are what we think. By dealing with our inwardness we can stop listening to those same old tapes, start to create new ones, changing the way we think and the way we are in the world. Going outward is actually about outward action. Our outward action proves that being different is possible, success becomes vital stepping stones that creates the new highway. Change begins to happen from deep within, and once you let go of whatever inward tapes you have accumulated you will be able to go far beneath your conscious mind, healing the unconscious and therefore allowing change to begin to happen. The most important thing is not only to be able to get in the game, it’s about staying in the game and in order to do so it means that if you hit a speed bump, the speed bump does not give you permission to get out of the game, it gives you permission to go back to going inward, in order to figure out what those old tapes are about that might not have been dealt with yet. Everything is related to everything else, and this real and meaningful dialogue between inward you and outward you allows new doable behaviours to establish; a new lifestyle and a new you. You have to start where you are. What may be easy for one person might be extremely difficult for another, the most important thing is to get going in the right direction. Because you have made a commitment, there is no stopping the forward rush, because the dark corners have been eliminated, at least to the degree that they were experienced before. Progress will be both the result of the new program of doing it and thinking it. The key is to remember that this is not a contest. This is a ‘slow and steady wins the race’ process, a new lifestyle is a new lifestyle. The key is to be comfortable in the notion that the pounds will slowly come off and because they are slowly coming off you wont experience the immediate change. This is actually really important. If the pounds just fell off, it’s not a good motivator to keep you living your healthy lifestyle, and that nasty cycle of yoyo dieting will set in again. Going upward is the combined effects of going inward and going outward that will lead you to a full and abundant life. Whatever your past, now is what counts. As well as the future we are building. Right now we have a choice, we can choose upward behaviour, reaching out to grab ahold of a new life, to create a new lifestyle, and the truth is, none can honestly say that the journey is easy. There will be frustrations and the truth is that you will have to put in place what you need to in order to fight maintaining the status quo. So when you start the journey, normal human behaviour will be that others around you will become uncomfortable, they will want you to change back. They are your habit guardians. If you want this new lifestyle, you will be responsible for the defending your new lifestyle.
